Abstract
Fetal pleuarl effusion is uncommon and it was first reported in the late 1970s. Etiologies for fetal pleural effusions include chylothorax, hydrops fetalis, or intrauterine viral infections, but in many cases the cause is unknown In the past few
years,
there have been reports of intrauterine therapy by thoracentesis or insertion of catheter. Fetal pleural effusions diagnosed in the late second trimester tu early third trimester have been reported in which spontaneous resolution was noted at the
time
of delivery.
We experienced a case of massive isolated fetal pleural effusion in one side discovered during third trimester. Pleuro-amniotic shunting was successfully performed with disappearance of effusion. But holes of catheter were blocked by debris and
pleural
effusion was appeared again. After delivery, spontaneous complete resolution of massive pleural effusion was noted in the neonate 12th day after birth.
